Nothing to see here
Window to a small alternative reality
A series of strange events involving a plastic bag, a confused man, and a wolf gradually challenges our perception: What's happening behind our backs? How much of reality can we actually fathom? And isn't our experience of reality merely a self-constructed illusion?
Amidst hurried commuters and waiting travelers, in the middle of Heerlen Station, you'll find the art installation "Nothing to See Here" during the Cultura Nova Festival. "Nothing to See Here" is an interactive viewing box by Studio Nergens that invites passersby to become part of a kaleidoscopic and disruptive immersive experience.
Nothing to See Here immerses you in an optical and sonic illusion. You encounter your live doppelganger, while fictional figures and immersive sounds stalk and surround it. A series of strange events involving a plastic bag, a confused man, and a wolf gradually challenge our perception: What's happening behind your back? How much of reality can we truly comprehend? And isn't our experience of reality merely a self-constructed illusion?
Nothing to See Here is an experience in public space, one you can participate in at any time and for as long as you like. A visual and auditory game that questions reality. The installation shakes and splits your perception, placing you in the middle of an alienating virtual world while simultaneously allowing you to observe yourself from a distance. Nothing to See Here explores that what we accept as truth is not objective or fixed, but is constantly shaped by our bodily relationship with it: Am I, or do I have a body? And what is the reality that exists outside of us?
"In Nothing to See Here, I collaborate with art and technical director Aron Fels, sound artist Aurélie Nyirabikali Lierman, and spatial sound engineer Wouter Snoei to create not only an optical but also a sonic illusion. "Nothing to See Here" uses live 3D images of you and the train station. The stimulating sounds of the interactive and spatial soundscape surround you and play tricks on you. We playfully challenge you to consider what is true or real, and whether we can ever truly know." - Celine Daemen

Nothing to See Here will have its Prototype premiere during Cultura Nova and can be experienced from Friday, August 29, to Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Heerlen Station.
Nothing to see here can then be experienced at IDFA DocLab (November 14 to 23, 2025) and at Muziekgebouw Amsterdam (November 29, 2025 to January 4, 2026).
